Hey there guys!
Today I was thinking about rock and metal bands. And I came to a conclusion. If you just listen to the most commercial bands, you'll never evolve your guitar skills that much.
The bands i'm talking about are: AC/DC, Guns n' Roses, Metallica, Muse, Nirvana, etc... (I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just saying that you could know waaayy more bands!)
One band i really advise you to listen to, is Extreme. There is only one guitarrist in the band: Nuno Bettencourt. The video is from the song "Decadence Dance". A kickass song, with really awesome riffs and and a great solo
Another band i found out (curiously, they were the support band for Extreme) is Voodoo Six. Imagine a voice that can shout like King Diamond, a guitarrist that is the most perfect replica of Dimebag Darrell alive, an insane drummer, a greeat bassist, and anoter guitar player, full of feeling. Result? Hard Rock with BALLS
this can prove it :P
Well, cheers everyone!

ResponderExcluirHey lad!
ResponderExcluirLook here's how I see it. I've been playing guitar for over 10 years now. Played with many kick ass guitarrists and now I'm taking classes from a real Virtuoso. Playing guitar should go a little bit beyond the techinical mumbo jumbo you see on workshops. What makes a true guitarrist?
Look in the states are 500 million people (more or less but probably more) gutiarrist magazine imagines that tere are say 10 million guitarrists. Of those 10 million, say 1 million is good. From that 1 mil, you got like 500.000 great guitarrists, and right off that half mil. you got like 20 guitarrists with something original on their techniques. Unfortunatly, what you listen and what you play to shapes your technique (obviously). But those great bedroom guitarrists you can find on youtube. Many can play Steve Vai or Malmsteem's songs better than Vai or Yngwie themsleves. As you know they record it and then they jam it live. That's why they are great they are able to jam it live in way that it sounds good. I consider myself to be a decent guitarrist and I can't play Vai or Satriani. I play my own stuff. Stuff that makes sense to me and that becomes a part of me. My teacher taught me that. On my first class he told me he wasn't going to teach me any songs, he said that he could only give me the (techincal) tools for me to BE ABLE to create my own thing. Look at AC/DC, you were there. Angus doesn't sweep, he strolls around the various patterns of blues scale and even my mom knows who he is. But then it's what divines great guitarists from godlike guitarists. You can shred impossible licks, but your live performance will suffer imensly, you can't move, you can make the crowd move with you, because you must be concentrated on what you are doing. But thats another story I guess...
Keep rockin' kid!
