Neoclassical Guitar

Hey there! Today I'll talk about what i'm playing (guitar)

Latelly, I've been trying to develop a neoclassical way of playing. I mean, playing metal with classical components.
About neoclassical playing:

  • Based on regular intervals (let's take a 3rd [minor or major, according to the scale], for example)
Em - CM - DM - Bm - CM - Am - Bm
  • Use of pedal points (repetition of a note or a group of notes alternatly with the melody). Here's a little example, beeing F# the pedal note

  • Use of Ostinatos (Repetition of a phrase, a lick, or an idea)
  • Playing fast Arpeggios. Minor and Diminished are the most used, though.

Here's something that i just love to play. It's a part from "Toccata et Fugue", from J.S. Bach.

If you want to learn more about the style, here are some guitarrists that you should listen to:

Yngwie Malmsteen

Vinnie Moore

Jeff Loomis

Cacophony (Jason Becker and Marty Friedman)

There are a lot more, mail me if you're interested to know.

Cheers everyone!
